When Stacie asked me to come over and photograph her children, I had no idea I was about to meet royalty. These two ladies…I mean Princesses…were dressed for the ball. Stacie’s niece was in town from Colorado and joined in the fun! Although Annalivia’s brother was on-hand as Prince Charming (aka Lincoln), he wasn’t too happy to take many pictures! We had a lot of fun running around, dancing, pouting and even had a tea party with Grandma!

Oh how I miss the days when you actually believed you were royalty…a lady in waiting. haha…I guess I am a lady in waiting!

Reminiscing :: old and new

Back then it was mesh trucker hats, Teddy Ruxpin, knee-high striped baseball socks, rainbow bright sun jumpers, big hair, and L.A. Gear shoes.

Now, it’s Gymboree clothing, ZuZu pets, silly bands, Hannah Montana, and Heely’s. Different and yet the same.

For Mother’s day for Jane, Spencer’s mom, I thought I’d re-create a picture of Spencer and his older sister Camille, at 4 and 6 years old, approx. Although I couldn’t match the outfits exactly, I tried to do the 2010 version (with both children wearing Spencer’s old hats). We had a lot of fun taking these pictures and remembering that daddy was a little boy once too!

Do something meaningful and special for your momma on Sunday as well!

Xander ran around saying "cowboy! cowboy!" like this.

This had to be, hands-down, one of the funniest photo shoots I’ve ever been on! These girls had me rollin’…seriously…so much so that I was a total klutz. I’d be shooting a picture, squatting down, one would make me laugh…and….timmmbbbeeerrr…over I tumbled from hysteria. Ok, if I’m totally honest, perhaps some of that was my natural clumsiness, but still, these girls were hilarious.

Jennifer wanted to take some cute, vintagey (is that a word?) pictures for Mother’s Day! Their girls couldn’t be any different from one another, and yet, you can feel the love they share! I asked them who the quiet, shy one was (Chloe), who the funniest and most inventive one was (Hannah), and who the silliest and craziest was (Shelby). We had a lot of fun pretending to be models, dancing like the stars, and trying on vintage clothing (tee hee).

Girls, I had a blast and I can’t wait to spend more time with you playing dress-up and having a singing and dancing party! Never lose your joy and zeal for life!

This family is 110% boy. Mary is out-numbered 4 to 1. Three boys under the age of 6 (plus hubbie) = lots of baseball, dirt and caterpillars for sure! The amazing thing is Mary hasn’t lost one ounce of her femininity. When she walked out of the packed mini-van she looked as cute as can be! Her bright pink shirt and skirt were a stark contrast to the sea of blues and greens from the rest of the family! I was excited to meet and photograph this family because….well…I always love a challenge! Haha! Three little, adventurous, and fast little boys make for on-your-toes photography!

I had a blast just following the boys around…using caterpillars this time for bribery (instead of the silly bands!). I met up with the Sledge family at Harris Shoals Park, walked around, caught caterpillars, created some artwork, and slid down the most incredibly fast (and dangerous) slide in a 50 mile radius!

I have so much respect for Mary and Jason! It takes a lot of energy to keep up with three little kiddos…let alone three little boys! I feel so honored to photograph your beautiful and adventurous (and growing!) family!

Their last name fits this family perfectly. Flowers–they are colorful, attractive, inspirational, and they make you smile when you receive them. That is a perfect description of this family. I also loved Jill’s description of her family: “The Flowers family is 3 parts silly, 1 part disciplinarian, 1 part indulgent, 2 parts rascal, 2 parts precious, 4 parts fascinating with a dash of hot mess woven, tangled and crocheted in love.” Haha! So perfect.

Upon stepping out of the car, I knew we were in for a fun and spirit-filled photo session. Jill and Dwayne have a beautiful family…as in their children should seriously be models. With their wide eyes, big, captivating smiles and pleasant disposition they were so easy to photograph…even while picking their noses and pretending to eat their boogies (they truly did this…it was hilarious!). Jill and Dwayne were classic opposites…Dwayne being pensive, quiet and “endearingly serious” and Jill being loud(er), creative and a free-spirit. Kinda reminds me of me and Spence.

Jill & Dwayne, I had a wonderful time with your family…getting to know you and playing around in Athens! Thanks for trekking out to see me and encouraging me all the while!

Happy Birthday::Emma & Tristan

I was so excited about attending Emma & Tristan’s 1st Birthday Party on Saturday–me and a party?!? Perfect Match! A dual birthday party–and no, these two are not twins…just cousins born days apart! This party was styling–the mom’s (and grandma’s) did a great job of decorating with both boy and girl-themed decorations. There were good eats, LOADS of presents, and plenty of cutie pies to take pictures of!

It’s always fun to watch the dramatic differences between boys and girls. Emma opened one of her presents to find a teddy bear…ripe for cuddling (which she did)…or you could be Tristan and see this same teddy bear and tackle it to the ground instead (nothing like a teddy wrestling match). Typical. Gotta love our natural differences…boys and girls, that is. (I know there are exceptions to the rule, fyi )

Thanks so much mom’s for letting me photograph your baby’s…I mean toddlers’…special day!

So for my second ever Thankful Thursday, I thought I’d share with you the thing(s) I’m most grateful for…my kiddos. They are beautiful and intelligent. They say and do the silliest things ever and make me laugh. And yet, at times, they make me so mad I could scream. They remind me that there is more to life than what I want…and show me daily that there is truly a God, and that he loves me. They are my little reminders of Spencer…his legacy. I cherish them.

I mean, really, can you get any cuter than this!?!? I could literally eat him up…

And look at my silly comedian! She cracks me up…

Brotherly and sisterly love

So ready to be done taking pictures. And still so beautiful…

I’m also grateful for my new 70′s wingback chairs! Can I tell you how much they make me smile!?!? They are still in my garage…awaiting a spot in my living room. You can hate all you want…I don’t care. They brighten my day…and soon, my living room.

Lastly, my new GW jean vest made me happy this week. I felt totally 80′s…I still can’t believe denim vests…or just denim on denim…is coming back. I tried it out…and liked it.

Here are some shots of me taken by my lovely assistant, Angelina. 5 years old…not a bad eye.

Lastly, I’m grateful for homemade soup (kinda like chili, but not) on cold, rainy days where you just want to sit in and do nothing. This was my first time ever making soup from scratch. It was very tasty. I even made the crouton thingy’s that went in the yummy soup!

Here’s to finding the small (and sometimes big) things in life to be grateful for.
