mind.blowing.

I am a firm believer that God totally has a sense of humor. I mean, seriously, you can look at the Bible and just laugh at some of the stuff in there…and I think God wanted us to chuckle…or at least, that’s my opinion. If you don’t believe me, read this dude’s essay about it. It’s deep. So I think that God just does the most random stuff in my life that ends up as such a profound jesture of love. If you don’t already know, I’m in love with thrift shopping. As in I love shopping at various thrift-y stores. I also LOVE books. Really, I think I have an obsession with books. I hoard them. I can thank my dad for that little quirky trait of mine.

Well one day I’m in the GW (that’s short for Goodwill for those non-thrifty peeps out there) browsing around for “market” items for our church’s conference decorations. I always have to peruse the book aisle. It’s my thing. My eyes just so happened to glance at a book titled “Loving God with All Your Mind”. The cover art was total cheese, but the title sparked my interest. You just never know sometimes with these books. I figured what’s 75 cents if it’s a good read, so I bought it on a whim. Dorky cover art and all. Let me just tell you…it has BLOWN my mind. Seriously. It’s helping me re-understand (is that a word? is now) exactly what it means to love God with all my mind. A-mazing. Elizabeth George, the author, used some of “my” scriptures…you know the scriptures you always go to when you’re down and out…and she took “my” scriptures to a whole new place in my mind and heart. The chapter I’m reading right now applies directly to my life right now as I prepare for my DUATHLON this weekend! AHHHHHHHHH! 3 mile run, 30 mile bike, 3 mile run!!!

I’ll leave you with a short quote from the book:

“God’s Word calls us to look ahead, to determine our God-given purpose, to set our sights on the goals He gives us, to be the best we can be for Him, to daily fix both heart and mind on God Himself, and to direct our focus forward every minute. God’s Word tells us to go on–and God’s Word reassures us that He is with us as we run the race, offering guidance and strength each step of the way.” AMEN!

Seriously, I’m dreaming bigger than ever for God! I have so many goals and plans that I’m offering up to Him asking for guidance, strength, courage, and the resources to see them through! Soon I’ll be traveling to Baton Rouge to visit some of my best friend’s who are starting a campus ministry and this summer, prayerfully, I’ll be heading to Kenya with Angelina to serve at an AIDS girl’s orphanage.

So the moral to this story. Shop at the Goodwill. Tee hee. Just kidding…seriously though, keep your eyes out for God “speaking” to you in random places and mos def keep dreaming BIG for God. Shiny!:)

ps-I’ll let you know the other a-mazing book I’m reading later. It’s the one on the RIGHT. And yes, I read in the tub…and sometimes fall asleep there, book in hand and all…haha.
